Brake Maintenance Best Practices
Brake Maintenance Best Practices
Proper brake maintenance is essential for vehicle safety, performance, and longevity. While we provide labor-only brake service (you supply your own compatible brake pads and parts), following these best practices can help you maximize the life of your braking system and avoid unnecessary issues during installation.
Regular Inspections
- Visual and professional checks: Inspect brakes every 10,000–15,000 miles or at least once a year (ideally during oil changes or tire rotations). Look/listen for warning signs like squealing, grinding, pulling to one side, vibration, or longer stopping distances.
- Check brake fluid level and condition regularly (clear to light amber is ideal; dark or low fluid needs attention). Flush/bleed as recommended, typically every 2–3 years.
Driving Habits to Extend Brake Life
- Practice smooth, gradual braking instead of slamming the pedals.
- Avoid riding the brakes; use engine braking when possible on downhills.
- Minimize heavy loads and aggressive stop-and-go driving when feasible.
